IT Governance Compliance and Risk Management
The talk was all about the IT governance compliance and risk management, specifically what are the trending
jobs in it and what are the emerging technologies that could be use in the future.
Mr.Wilfredo Bercasio Jr. gave us a very useful and informative talk on the IT governance compliance and risk management. For me this is the best seminar I'd attended in the EM-TECH seminar series. He encouraged us to pursue our IT career because it would certainly lead us to a successful person. Before this seminar, I have no idea on what would be my job after graduating with this degree, then he somewhat answered this dilemma of mine. This talked also helped me realized that I did the write thing to pursue this degree. "Technology never gets old, it always evolve", so with my career on the technology side, my future or my career is safe or is stable.
Pharmaceutical Industry Seminar
Mrs. Olga Santos was the speaker of the said talk. Pharmaceutics
was discussed and the upcoming technologies were explained using slides. Problems
of the industry in the future as well as the procedure of making medical drugs
were explained.
The
talk didn't interest me at first since the topic of this seminar is not really
connected with my course. Although I
wasn't paying attention initially, I listened later on and I found out how the
pharmaceutical industry works. The talk was similar with the bioinformatics
seminar although they differ such that the bioinformatics seminar clearly
stated that IT students have a job in the their field. In the pharmaceutical
industry talk, the connection of IT wasn't clearly stated and thus, it wasn't
that helpful to us IS students.
Events Industry Seminar
Mr. Alvi Javier,
talk about handling events and communication to clients so that they will be
the one to handle their events. The speakers are very knowledgeable on what
they are talking about, that is why they easily got my attention.
He made me realized
that communication is really an important factor in handling business. I have
difficulty in communicating to people especially if I don't know them that
much, which is really my weakness. This seminar made me realize that it is I
have to do something to improve my communication skills. Because in business
life or career, communication is a very significant factor to be considered.
Robotics
A robot is a
machine that has the ability to think like human, move like human, or do few things
the way a normal human can do, and also to be able to make choices and decision
of their own. Today, we all know that technologies are all over us. Before we
only see robots in television, but now it is upon reach. Robots help human to
have a more comfortable way of living. I can see that in the near future robots
and humans are no longer very different from each other.
Robotics is not
new to my ears, but still I have a lot of question regarding this one. Would an
INSYS graduate be able to apply in a robotics company? some questions like
that. Since the speaker is on the rush finishing his talk, I still don't know
to this question. But still I think robotics is also a good career to take,
since it is also in line technology and
most of all humans want something that would make them live more comfortable.
Because we all know that humans are lazy. The bad side of this robotics is that
it will make humans be more dependent to technology or to these robots.
Bioinformatics
Mr. Neil Bretaña talk was all about
"Bioinformatics". He showed us how Information Systems can be used in
the field of Biology. He tackled facts and theories of biology specifically
about genes.
This topic is really helpful
and informative for students like us. Information Systems' students are
familiar in working with databases, that is in line with bioinformatics. He
showed us that even we do programming and more technical stuff, it can also be
combine with general science or biology. We can help the biology team in making
their work easier. Bioinformatics is
indeed a good choice for IS applicants that likes science subjects as well.
Kinect
The seminar/talk about Kinect was held by Mr. Michael John De La Peña. He simply showed us how to configure Kinect using Microsoft Visual Studio. The following are the functions he showed us: capture data function, tilt function, depth data function, skeleton data function, skeletal tracking function, voice tracking function.
He showed us, that using Microsoft Visual Studio is not just used in creating asp pages. It can also be used in controlling, configuring, and managing devices like Kinect. We usually used Kinect for playing games but with this seminar I learned that it can also be used in security purposes. Common security cameras doesn't have the function that capture an image every time it detects a moving object/person. I can help a lot of people by playing with this Kinect's API / codes while enjoying because I can also play with it.
